A message from sing-yourself-happy
I was scrolling through the UMaine tag and noticed you answered a question about the university at some point, so I really hope I don't bug you with this. I am going to UMaine next year, but I'm from California, I am fully prepared for a culture/weather shock, but I'm terrified of not making friends. I don't know if being from the west coast will change how I'm viewed or if I'll be judged or something, or if it won't even make a difference. Do you have any tips? Thank you:)

I don’t think it will at all! My boss in reslife actually came from Cali and this is her first year in Maine and she is adjusting fine. “Mainers” are generally really friendly and open with new people. This is a pretty open-minded campus too. If not anything, people will think it’s cool that you are from away - most students are from Maine! You may encounter some groups of people that have come here together from high school and may be a little cliquey, but there are tons and tons of other students that are starting fresh. The awesome thing of a campus with thousands of students is that you will meet new faces every day. Join a club or two, get involved, keep your dorm door OPEN, and you WILL make friends, I promise. :) I will be an RA in Hart first floor (upperclass dorms) next year, feel free to stop by if you ever need anything!
